Community Needs Series – Unit 7 of 8: Recommendations

Our Roadmap: Five Commitments to the Community

The survey has been heard. The gaps have been found. Now comes the part that matters most: what are we actually going to do about it?

Based on the survey findings, we identify five priorities for the community center and the services it will offer. These are not aspirations — they are commitments to the community.

  • Foster Connection and Sense of Belonging: Programs that help the community stay connected and people come back for shared values. Nothing outside of our community can do it for us.
  • Focus on the Settlement in the New Environment: Programs that address barriers to integration, including language capacity building and consultative services. One in four community members need language assistance to access everything else.
  • Prioritize Practical Needs Supported by An Information Hub: Home repairs, vehicle repairs, and housing are the three most common practical needs in the survey. A practical Referral Network can keep growing by adding vetted, reliable referrals via a searchable, organized digital hub. The hub can also support other services, events, and community Q&A — replacing fragmented social media as the primary information channel.
  • Promote Multigenerational Programming: Dedicated programs for seniors focused on welfare and dignity; for youth focused on academic preparation and mental health; for adults focused on career development and parenting.
  • Value Affordability, Accessibility, and Quality: Core services that are free or low-cost. Assistance in transportation, scheduling, etc., to lower the barriers in cost and mobility. High operational standards and empathetic, capable staff to ensure the center delivers the quality that the community can have confidence in.

Next week: We close this series — and open the next chapter. The full survey report will be released, and we will invite you to be part of this chapter.
